Special Olympics 2002

In the late spring of 2002 my class got to be in the Special Olympics. First we did the local games and then we did the Montana State Special Olympics. Our team had cool matching hats with our names on them!

Here are Ariel and I waiting to do the standing long jump.
We had to wait for a long time between events. We got to sit in the stands and watch all the other kids do their events. And I got to talk and play with my friends from school.

One of my events was bowling! Mommy and Daddy got me my very own bowling ball (it's green of course) with my name engraved on it and a bag and shoes for my birthday!
Josh was the only other kid from my class to do bowling. We had fun cheering for each other.
I won three ribbons! I got first place for bowling and then third and fourth for the softball throw and standing long jump.
Then later we got to do the Montana State Special Olympics. We were lucky because they had it in Billings that year! I did bowling again, but I only got 5th place that time. That's ok, I still got a ribbon!

They had a lot of fun activities for us to do. They had one of those bouncy houses, I loved that one! I hung around with my friends from school.
At lunch time we even got to meet Mrs. Montana! She was really nice. Catherine, Ariel and Mrs. Montana in the back and Christopher, Joe, me and Josh in the front.

I got a silver medal for the standing long jump, but my Mommy has to get a picture of me wearing it still! I was so excited. Everyone in my class won at least one medal! I can't wait until next year!
